Rev. Fr. Rico John Bilangel, C.S.s.R., rector of the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help delivered his talk at the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno during the Parish Wide Formation with the topic: “Shrine as Place of Charity” at 7:00 P.M. on July 30, 2024.
In his formaton, he flexed Debo(Mi)syon or Devotion and mission in charity services of Baclaran. On the part of Debo(Mi)syon: Becoming A Shrine of Mercy: The Baclaran Experience, Fr. Bilangel gives a separate definition of what mission and devotion is and what is the ‘danger’ of these two terms when acted upon literally. With that, Debo(Mi)syon is the meeting of devotion and mission paths via contemplativa and via active.

There are seven (7) pillars of Shrine Debo(Mi)syon: Refuge of the Needy, Home of Reconciliation, Shrine of Hospitality, Servant Community, Pillar of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, and Channel of Gratitude and Grace Source of Hope. He also highlighted some programs of the Baclaran for its DeboMisyon particularly geared towards crisis intervention, educational assistance and alternative learning system, dental and medical services, skills and livelihood training, helping the women, migrants, family and outreach programs.
For the Spirituality of Debomisyon, Fr. Bilangel gave pointers for the audience to ponder humility to take risks in mercy initiatives, responding with creative fidelity in mission, importance of ongoing formation, navigate linkages and collaboration and everything is God’s work – let God lead the way.
As of present, Rev. Fr. Rico John Bilangel, C.S.s.R. is, also, the newly elected Vice President for NCR & Rizal of the Association of Catholic Shrines and Pilgrimages (ACSP).
