“TRUTH, JUSTICE AND GOODNESS”: QUIAPO CHURCH COMMEMORATES THE PASSION OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST

Nov. 30, 2024 06:43 PM

Rev. Fr. Rufino C. Sescon Jr., Basilica-Shrine rector and parish priest presided the 5:00 P.M. mass on August 29, 2024, in honor of the Feast of the Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of St. John the Baptist Parish (Quiapo Church), the parish titular name of the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno.

Ang kamatayan ay parang tulay na lamang sa buhay na walang hanggan” (Death is like a passage towards an everlasting life). In the face of worldwide persecution because of exercising one’s religious beliefs in countries like Middle East, where practicing Catholicism is forbidden, Rev. Fr. Sescon advises the devotees to become the face of truth and justice just like St. John the Baptist, that led eventually to his death.

“Ang tunay na deboto nagpapahayag at naninidigan sa katotohanan, katarungan at kabutihan” (A real devotee stands up for the truth, justice and goodness). Rev. Fr. Sescon encouraged the devotees to defend and affirm their own faith to live a noble life and see Jesus of Nazarene amidst the harassments and discriminations faced because of faith.

Following the mass, a simple fellowship night was convened. Prior to this mass, a short program was conducted 3:00 P.M. highlighting the life of St. John the Baptist from his birth up to his death.
