At exactly 7:00A.M., the Prusisyon Silencio was participated by various organizations of our church and some devotees of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The procession went around the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno. Rev. Fr. Jonathan Noel Mojica, parochial vicar, led the said procession.
Usually, this is the second procession on Good Friday dubbed as the “El Silencio” or the procession of ‘Soledad’, but here at the Quiapo Church, it is held on Holy Saturday morning. Everyone participating in this procession is expected to remain silent and reflect on the sorrow of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the death and burial of her son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. The route of this procession is opposite to the route of the Lord’s burial procession.
As we know, the Blessed Virgin of Solitude is the stage in the life of the Blessed Virgin on the night of the first Good Friday. After witnessing the horrific and tragic death of her only Son, the Blessed Mother had chosen to remain silent and alone in prayer while contemplating the great Paschal Mystery of her Son, eagerly awaiting His glorious resurrection.
In the observance of the Prusisyon del Silencio, we accompany the Blessed Mother at this moment, and through her motherly guidance and care, we unite and empathize with her sorrow while also longing for the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth in our lost, forgetful, and cold hearts.
