MANILA, Philippines—The Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno in Quiapo will host the 1st Balangay National Conference 2025, gathering devotees from across the Philippines and abroad to deepen their devotion to Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno.

The event aims to strengthen faith through formation and reflection, highlighting how Mary’s discipleship can inspire believers to live out their mission with devotion that goes beyond mere tradition.
“Our goal is for every diocese in the Philippines, and even in other parts of the world, to have devotion to Jesus Nazareno,” said Mr. Joseph G. Verdadero, Hijos del Nazareno Head.
Mr. Verdadero emphasized that the conference seeks to bring the image of Jesus Nazareno closer to more communities through outreach and shared devotion. “One of our goals is to produce and donate Nazareno images to dioceses that need Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno,” he added.
He explained that by extending these images, the Church hopes to reach faithful who long to experience the same grace that Quiapo has long cherished. “We are not only focusing on the image of Jesus Nazareno, but on the God behind the image,” said Mr. Verdadero.
He clarified that the Balangay Conference is a call to look beyond outward expressions of devotion and instead embrace spiritual transformation inspired by faith. Organized by the Hijos del Nazareno Affairs Office, the conference will include talks, inspirational messages, and “Balangay Stories” featuring testimonies from devotees nationwide.
The gathering marks a new chapter for the Quiapo Church’s mission to form missionary disciples, drawing strength from both the Nazareno and the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
