QUIAPO CHURCH MARKS 2ND ANNIVERSARY AS MINOR BASILICA AND NATIONAL SHRINE OF JESUS NAZARENO

The Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno, Quiapo Church, joyfully celebrated its 2nd Anniversary of its declaration as a National Shrine with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by His Eminence Jose F. Cardinal Advincula, Archbishop of Manila.

In his homily Cardinal Advicula reflected on the Gospel, emphasizing the responsibility of every Christian to be a bearer of light. Drawing from the words of Christ Jesus, he reminded the faithful that light is not meant to be hidden but shared and propagated, especially in a world longing for hope.

The Cardinal highlighted that Quiapo Church has been shaped through the sweat, sacrifice and deep faith of generations of devotees. From these humble offerings, the shrine has become a powerful symbol of living faith and devotion to Jesus Nazarene. Cardinal Advincula underscored three significant roles of Quiapo Church:

A Shrine of Hope for Everyone Quiapo is not a place where hope is kept for oneself alone, but a sanctuary where hope is meant to be shared with others.

A Light of Compassion and Justice The shrine stands as a beacon that calls the faithful to live out compassion, mercy and justice in their daily lives.

A Light of the Church Around the World. Through the devotion to Jesus Nazareno, Quiapo continues to inspire faith not only locally but also globally.

As he concluded his homily, Cardinal Advincula expressed his prayerful hope that Quiapo Church, on its 2nd Anniversary as a National Shrine, will continue to be a strong and radiant sender of hope. He encourages everyone to allow themselves to be guided by the light of the Cross of Jesus Nazareno, illuminating their path of faith and service.

The celebration concluded with Rev. Fr. Ramon Jade Licuanan, Parish Priest of Quiapo Church, offering his grateful and heartfelt thanks to Cardinal Advincula, all the concelebrating priests and the countless devotees who continue to support and strengthen the mission of the shrine.

The anniversary celebration reaffirmed Quiapo Church’s enduring mission: to shine as a living light of hope, faith and love for all.
