In preparation for Nazareno 2026, the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno, commonly known as Quiapo Church, held its traditional Pabihis (vesting) of the image of Jesus Nazareno.

The tradition began with a solemn ceremony presided over by Rev. Fr. Marion Brian Maquiraya, followed by the traditional vesting of the revered image. The Pabihis is a deeply symbolic ritual that reflects the devotion and gratitude of the faithful to Poong Jesus Nazareno.

In an interview, the family benefactors of the Pabihis shared that life’s challenges are inevitable, and their participation in the tradition is their humble way of giving thanks to Poong Jesus Nazareno despite the struggles they continue to face. They also expressed gratitude for the blessings and miracles they experience in their daily lives
“Lahat naman ‘yun, yung prayers granted. Hindi lang dumadating kaagad, pero may solusyon na dumadating—yung mga taong tumutulong sa amin,” one of the benefactors said. The ceremony served as a reminder to devotees that faith calls for complete surrender to God, trusting that His will shall prevail in His perfect time.

Following the traditional Pabihis, the celebration continued with the Pahalik, another long-standing tradition where devotees are given the opportunity to venerate the garments previously worn by the image of Jesus Nazareno.

The vesting of Poong Jesus Nazareno holds deep significance for devotees, as it is one of the important liturgical activities leading up to the Nazareno 2026 celebrations.
