QUIAPO, MANILA, Philippines — In joyful preparation for the Feast of St. John the Baptist, the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno – Quiapo Church, officially commenced its annual Barangay Visitacion on Saturday, June 20, 2026, as it brought the revered Callejera Image of St. John the Baptist to various Simbahayan communities and barangays under the pastoral jurisdiction of the parish.
The Barangay Visitacion served as a meaningful expression of the Church’s mission to bring Christ closer to the faithful by visiting communities, strengthening family faith, and fostering unity among parishioners. Through the presence of the image of St. John the Baptist, residents were invited to reflect on the saint’s role as the forerunner of Christ and his enduring call to repentance, conversion, and faithful discipleship.

The first stop of the year’s Visitacion was Barangay 392, under the leadership of Barangay Chairperson Corazon Arceganap, where residents warmly welcomed the image and participated in prayerful activities and community gatherings centered on faith and devotion.
On the following day, June 21, 2026, the image was brought to Barangay 391, led by Barangay Chairperson Cecilio Mateo, where another vibrant gathering of the faithful took place. Parishioners and community leaders joined together in prayer, expressing gratitude for the blessings they had received through the intercession of St. John the Baptist. Highlighting the celebration was the Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Richard Anthony Lim, Parochial Vicar of Quiapo Church. In his homily, Fr. Lim encouraged the faithful to imitate the humility and courage of St. John the Baptist, who had dedicated his life to preparing the way for the Lord. He reminded the community that every Christian was likewise called to become a witness to Christ through acts of charity, service, and evangelization.

On June 22, 2026, Monday, at 9:00 a.m., the Callejera Image of St. John the Baptist was brought to Barangays 383 and 393, where the faithful gathered for catechetical activities and prayer. At 2:00 p.m., the image was solemnly enthroned in Barangay 394 for a Catechism session and the celebration of the Holy Mass, which was presided over by Rev. Fr. Ramon Jade Licuanan, Parish Priest of Quiapo Church. The faithful actively participated in the liturgical celebration as they continued their spiritual preparation for the parish fiesta.
The following day, June 23, 2026, Tuesday, the image was brought to Barangay 308 at 9:00 a.m. for another Catechism session. At 3:30 p.m., the Holy Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Robert Arellano, LRMS. Following the Eucharistic celebration, the faithful joined the traditional Karakol and procession back to Quiapo Church as a tribute to the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. The procession served as a joyful public witness of faith, bringing together parishioners, devotees, and community leaders in thanksgiving and devotion.
Throughout the Barangay Visitacion, the Church’s commitment to reaching out to communities and making the presence of God felt beyond the walls of the parish was clearly manifested. As the image of St. John the Baptist journeyed through different barangays, the faithful were encouraged to deepen their relationship with Christ and renew their commitment to living out the Gospel in their daily lives.

As the Church continued to celebrate the mission and witness of St. John the Baptist, the Barangay Visitacion inspired families and communities to open their hearts to God’s grace. Like the Baptist who proclaimed, “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30), the faithful were encouraged to become instruments of Christ’s love and mercy wherever they were. The parish also called on everyone to continue praying for the success of the Visitacion, for the unity of the communities, and for a renewed spirit of faith among all the faithful of Quiapo. Through the intercession of St. John the Baptist, the faithful were reminded to continue preparing the way of the Lord in their homes, neighborhoods, and hearts.
