Pagtalima sa Ama: Quiapo Church Parish Youth Ministry Presents Senakulo 2023

The Parish Youth Ministry (PYM) of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene showcased their impressive acting skills in dramatizing the life of Jesus Christ from his ministry to passion, death, and resurrection in this musical Senakulo entitled, ‘PAGTALIMA: Makikinig at Tutupad.’ The play was held at Plaza Miranda at 7:30 on Holy Wednesday, April 5, 2023. 

Rev. Fr. Earl Valdez, PYM Spiritual Director of Quiapo Church, gave the opening message of this year’s PYM Senakulo. He said the title of this musical play features Jesus as the model of obedience to the will of His Father until death on the cross. From this narrative, we are continuously following, reflecting, and living by his words so that whoever listens and believes in him will be blessed. Also, he hopes that this play may inspire everyone to submit humbly to the plans of the Lord, embracing life desired for us until the end. 

Under the direction of Ms. Kyla Oliveros and Ms. Melody Santos, the musical Senakulo ran for one hour, with each character portrays their respective characters with accuracy, depth, and intensity. Mr. Elijah Vilog, the lead actor, reprised the role of Jesus from last year’s Senakulo 2022 entitled: ‘PAHIMAKAS’. Other major characters were introduced as follows: Mother Mary, played by Ms. Lindsay Fortuno; Mary Magdalen presented by Ms. Tiffany Untiveros, Judas Iscariot performed by Mr. Marc Cortin; Pontius Pilate and his wife Claudia acted by Mr. Charl Maanyag, and Ms. Merickall Javillo, respectively; Caiphas, High Priest played by Mr. John Michael Baluyot, PYM Headlay; Anas acted by Mr. Albert Rico and Nicodemus by Mr. Samuel Iringan; Peter, John the Beloved and Bartholomew by Mr. Pacquiao Ore, Mr. George Herrero and Mr. Tracy Marchadesch. Also essential to the play are the crowd and the soldiers, which realistically gave life to the drama.

The success of this event is not only made possible through the technical guidance and support given by all producers, scriptwriters, directors, and managers behind this Senakulo 2023. Overall, the earned achievement from this play is a living testimony that the PYM is and will always unite in rendering service to the will of the Nuestro Padre Hesus Nazareno through obedience the youth should inculcate as one of its virtues to become true servants of the Lord.
