The Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage also known as Virgin of Antipolo, arrived at the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno on April 27, 2024. This activity, dubbed as the “Dalaw ng Ina sa Anak”, was warmly welcomed by the community with Rev. Fr. Jesus Madrid Jr., parochial vicar, who led the welcoming rites with a prayer for accepting the image, which will stay until April 30, 2024.

At the homily of Fr. Madrid Jr. during the 10:00 A.M. mass presided by Rev. Fr. Rufino C. Sescon Jr., Quiapo church rector and parish priest together with Rev. Fr. Reynante Tolentino, rector of the International Shrine and Cathedral of Antipolo, Fr. Madrid Jr. underscored the value of uniting in prayers amidst the crises and other challenges faced to attain peace and experience God’s presence in our lives. Further, (our) Mother Mary is always with us whenever we are in dark situations to accompany us. Likewise, this is to bind us in showing that we should have more faith.
The annual visitation of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage to Quiapo church affirms the rich historical and spiritual connection between these two churches given the origins of both images of Our Lady of Antipolo and the Black Nazarene and when the image was brought to this church to temporarily protect it from the ravages of the World War II. After the war, it was brought back to Antipolo church, hence the term “Ahunan” meaning upward is where it is derived to describe the annual Pilgrimage Season beginning this May. Viva La Virgen!
