HAIL TO THE REAL KING: QUAIPO CHURCH HONORS THE SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING

Dec. 09, 2024 12:48 PM

On November 24, 2024, Rev. Fr. Rufino C. Sescon Jr., Basilica-Shrine rector and parish priest of the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno presided the 3:00 P.M. mass in honor of the solemnity of the Christ the King of the Universe. This mass marked also the day of renewal of vows by all Hijos del Nazareno men, who are officially recognized by the church.

In his homily, Fr. Sescon Jr. directed his question to the Hijos (and addressed to the faithful) if the objective of their presence and service to the church is for self or for Him (God). In light of the recent (political) issues among conflicting leaders and those in power and authority, for Fr. Sescon, the real leader is not even the likes of Pontius Pilate, but Jesus.

Fr. Sescon Jr. also asked everyone if they are following the truth or not affirming the goodness. In comparison to Pilate, who had washed his hands in disposing responsibility for Jesus’ death, Fr. Sescon Jr. encouraged the faithful to be like Jesus, who is the real King, when he had washed the feet of his disciples.

Also, there will be the ‘Dalaw Nazareno’ (Nazareno Visitation) to all households of every Hijos member to remind them and strengthen the main purpose of being a true servant leader of Jesus of Nazarene.

After the homily, the renewal of vows commenced as all Hijos del Nazareno men pledged their commitment to continually fulfill their obligations as members (among their respective groups) and duties of upholding the devotion to the Black Nazarene. Mr. Mark Joseph Veradero, incumbent head of the Hijos del Nazareno Affairs led the activity. After the mass, the procession of Christ the King started with all Hijos participating in it.

Viva Kristong Hari! Long live, Christ the King! May your triumphant reign in the universe and our hearts live forever and ever!
