FROM MARY’S FIAT TO ASSUMPTION: QUIAPO CHURCH CELEBRATES THE FEAST OF THE BUENA HORA, MARIAN DEVOTION OF QUIAPO

Nov. 30, 2024 06:27 PM

Rev. Fr. Marvin Cruz, one of the former parochial vicars of the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno presided the 3:00 P.M. solemn mass on August 15, 2024, for this year’s feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary to heaven. Together with Rev. Fr. Rufino C. Sescon Jr., the incumbent rector and parish priest and Rev. Frs. Robert Arellano, LRMS, and Cristopher Crucero, parochial vicars and Rev. Edward Jay San Diego, former resident deacon, this feast is dedicated to Our Lady of the Good Hour, commonly hailed as the ‘Nuestra Señora dela Buena Hora’, the lone Marian devotion of Quiapo.

“Malapit na tayo sa pagtatapos ng dakilang plano ng Diyos” (We are nearing towards the final phase of the salvation of the Lord). Like any love stories, there is “may tamang panahon” (the right time). Rev. Fr. Cruz associated this to how the Lord acts in the right time to build the relationship with Him and mankind through Mary’s ‘Fiat’ (yes). Indeed, the Blessed Virgin Mary is indeed as what Rev. Fr. Cruz described as the “a vessel of God’s grace to us”. Further, Fr. Cruz expressed hope that we too may ‘receive the grace of blessings like our obedience to the will of the Lord God’.

Following the mass, a procession was held in honor of the Nuestra Señora dela Buena Hora. O, Dear Mother Mary, lead and guide us towards your son Jesus, so we may follow Him just as how you followed the will of the Lord to be His Mother. Viva La Virgen de Buena Hora! Viva La Virgen de Quiapo!
